WRITTEN TEST SERVICES: Haven’t passed the written knowledge test? You do not have to wait to take the test in high school, take it with us and get your permit and driver instruction started sooner! You do not have to wait until the test is administered in high school driver education class. You can take the test with us any time following your 16 th birthday! We have included links to the NJMVC knowledge test and individual chapter quizzes from the MVC driver’s manual in the ‘LINKS’ section of our website. Upon turning the age of 16, one of the first steps to participating in driving instruction is the student must pass a written knowledge test. Since this requires a licensed driving school instructor to purchase the student learner’s permit prior to taking the written test, we offer this as a one-time service to our students.
We can provide transportation to/from the local MVC agency. If the student successfully passes the written test we can then immediately proceed to the first 2-hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. ROAD TEST SERVICES: There are three main reasons to consider using one of our vehicles for the NJMVC road test: 1. Family vehicle is unacceptable for use on the state road test.
If the vehicle has a console running between the driver and passenger seats in front it must have the emergency brake handle located on this console. In other words, the MVC instructor must have a way to brake the vehicle in case of emergency during the road test. (Emergency brake locations to the left of the driver seat or on the floor on the driver’s side are not acceptable for use during the road test.) 2.
Family vehicle is large. The parallel parking space used during the road test is approximately 25 feet long. The larger the family vehicle is, the more problematic it may be for your teen to successfully parallel park such a vehicle. Our Honda Civics fit very comfortably into the parking space at MVC.
Student simply feels more confident and comfortable taking the road test in the same vehicle that they learned how to drive in. Confidence goes a long way in ensuring success during the road test.
It is usually best to call two (2) weeks prior to the scheduled NJMVC road test appointment to schedule the use of our vehicles and instructors. Call 609-447-0142 Road Test Two (2) Hour Review: This is an intensive two (2) hour review lesson of skills the student will be required to demonstrate on the NJMVC road test. This lesson is especially helpful if the six hours of instruction were completed over six months ago.
This lesson is usually scheduled several days before the road test. Road Test one (1) Hour Review + Vehicle Rental: The student may also combine a special one hour review lesson on the same day as the road test with the use of our vehicle for the road test. This lesson tends to focus upon parallel parking skills so that these skills are “fresh” in the student’s mind just prior to the state road test.

Parallel parking takes skill and is part of every road test. You must know where parking is illegal and what NO PARKING, NO STANDING and NO STOPPING signs indicate. HOW TO PARK Many motorists consider parallel parking the most difficult part of driving. But practice will teach you how to back up correctly and to judge distances and angles. The following instructions are general.
You must adjust parallel parking procedures to the particular situation. Practice is the only method to learn correctly. Select a space that is large enough for your vehicle on your side of the road. Check your mirrors before you stop, and signal to warn other drivers. Stop next to the vehicle in front of the space and leave about two feet between the other vehicle and your vehicle. Look behind you over both shoulders to make sure you will not interfere with pedestrians or oncoming traffic. Back the vehicle slowly and begin to turn your steering wheel completely toward the near curb.
Look through the rear window, not the mirrors, when you back up. Look to the side and front occasionally to make sure you will not touch the vehicle ahead. When your front wheels are opposite the back bumper of the vehicle ahead, turn the steering wheel the other way while you continue to back up.
Make sure you clear the vehicle ahead. Look back, and stop to ensure you do not bump the vehicle behind you. Bring your wheels straight and pull forward. Allow room for the vehicles ahead and behind you.
In your final parking position, your wheels must be no more than one foot (30 cm) from the curb. To get nearer to the curb, alternately pull forward and back up, and turn the steering wheel first toward the curb and then quickly straight again. After parking, remember that you must not open the door on the road side if it will interfere with bicyclists and other traffic. HOW TO PARK ON A HILL After you park on a hill, make sure to set your parking brake.
Turn the wheels so they will keep your vehicle from heading into traffic. If there is a curb, turn your steering wheel completely away from it if your vehicle faces up the hill, or completely toward the curb if your vehicle faces down the hill. If your vehicle begins to move, the wheels should stop the vehicle at the curb and prevent a move down the hill. This method works best where the curb is high. If there is no curb or a low one, turn your wheels completely toward the nearest side of the road no matter what direction your vehicle faces. If your vehicle does start to move, it will move away from the street and traffic.
HOW TO PULL OUT FROM PARALLEL PARKING To pull away from a parallel parking space, make sure your wheels are straight, back up to the vehicle behind you and turn your wheels away from the curb.
